Kralja Petra Street or King Peter Street is one of the central streets in downtown Belgrade. It’s also a minute away from the Belgrade Fortress. It is a great starting point for a Belgrade city tour with your English speaking guide. This street gives us an overview of the XIX and XX century history of the city. So, all in one street, we will visit:

-a XIX century cathedral with its interior decorations influenced by the Austrians

-Serbian Orthodox Church Museum of Icones that relate directly to the Byzantine inheritance

-a manor of a princess with unique furniture reflecting the passage from the Turkish dominated period to the more westernized era of the independent Serbia

-Serbian Central Banks’s collection of coins and bills (not to forget the gold bars!).

Kralja Petra Street is where we will also find the Jewish community center and an old mosque that used to serve as Catholic church in the XVIII century.

We then go to the Fortress and explore its 2300 year-long past. There, we’ll see:

-Roman walls

-medieval walls

-a water fountain from the XVI century

-two Orthodox churches with beautiful decorations one of whose interior baptistery is actually a fresh water spring

-sculptures and monuments marking important events of the Serbian arts and history.

Oh, and I almost forgot… we are all the time in the city center and therefore a coffee break can be made at any time in one of numerous cafés, just in case 3 and a half hours of this tour sounds too long for you.
